Quest for traffic
Well, since my last post I've had a whopping 5 pageloads to my site (in two days), one of which was the googlebot. I use an awesome free service at http://www.statcounter.com You get your site statistics from 17 different points of view (summary, visit length, recent visitor activity, etc.) in graphs and/or charts, I love it. Now I just need to pump up the visits to my site. I'm currently "enrolled" in John Reese's free e-course on generating traffic. Day one talks about the importance of tracking traffic. With statcounter, I have that under control. According to my stats, googlebot's first visit was on April 19th, two days after I started pinging my blog after I posted. If the last sentence made absolutely no sense, check out Priya Shah's website, she offers some great e-books and courses on blogging.
It's gaining momentum
Well, my business is really taking off. In my last post, I used my affiliate website name, but now I have my own domain name www.makesome1sday.com I'm happy that I was able to get this name because it truly captures what my business is all about. For most people, receiving a greeting card in the mail truly makes their day. I've heard this sentiment expressed many times by people I've mailed cards to over the past few weeks. I'm now looking to effectively drive traffic to my makesome1sday.com site. My blog will be one of many avenues that I will use to generate visitors to my site, check out my banner above this post.
I'm on my way
Since my last post, I've joined a company that allows you to send greeting cards in a whole new way. Forget about going to the store, searching for a card, going to the post office, and mailing the card. My company does all the grunt work, you only choose the card, type in a personalized message and the recipient's address and my company does the rest. And no, this is not an e-card, it's a real card that would be delivered to the recipient with a real stamp on it, not metered postage. So far, I've sent about 6 cards and everyone loved their card. If you would like to try it for free, check out my website http://www.makeloyalcustomers.com/cards.cfm?id=rmills (I'm still working on a catchy domain name). This business is fun and appeals to those people who enjoy making someone's day by sending them a greeting card. Oh well, until next post. I have alot of work to do to get this business running successfully.
Did You Know?
I haven't mentioned it in the past posts, but I have an awesome business mentor whose leading me down the path to one day becoming a stay at home mom. Over the past four weeks, since my first post, I've been instructed to read 2 books, Who Moved My Cheese and Making Work Work. I purchased ...Cheese at the local bookstore and ...Work at Amazon.com. What I didn't know was that I could've purchased these books for up to 35% less than what I paid for them by going to Overstock.com. I'm now about to purchase Rich Dad, Poor Dad at 42% less than Amazon.com and The Rhyme Bible at 35% less than Amazon.com. Right now, overstock.com is offering $1 shipping for the month of March. Happy Shopping.
What's My "Why?"
At this moment, I'm tired and sleepy. I have a book that I must finish reading tonight so right after I write this, I'm grabbing a Coke and getting to it. During these times, when I've worked my full-time job as a scientist, ran errands, came home to my husband and two children, cooked dinner, cleaned the kitchen, got the children ready for bed, did some part time work for my dad who owns his own company, and now writing this blog, I wonder, why am I doing this? Why don't I just come home and veg out in front of the tv with my husband and kids? Well, because my "why" is TIME FREEDOM. I want to be able to do what I want to on my own time. I look forward to the day when I can work in my garden, decorate my house, go bowling, spend quality time with my family, and travel whenever I want among other things. I know that day will come but until then I must multi-task big time and look forward to reaping the rewards. What is your "why"?
Stay at home mom
Yesterday, I wrote about wanting to be a stay at home mom. I believe being a stay at home mom will allow me to spend more quality time with my husband and two children, ages 6 and 2. Currently, I have a job as a scientist, (PhD in biology). Although I enjoy being a scientist, it's still a job that I must report to everyday and frankly, I'm tired of asking permission to spend time with my husband and children. I know that one day, I will be able to work from home and I'm working hard to make that dream become a reality.
My First post!!!
This blog will be about my journey to freedom. For the past four years, I've been in search of the "perfect" opportunity that would allow me to be a stay at home mom. I haven't found it yet, but I do believe that I'm on the right track. I've learned alot over the past four years and I still have more to learn. I'm looking forward to sharing my journey and perhaps it will become a guide to those people who are tired of the hype and really ready to become FREE.
"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistance. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. " Calvin Coolidge
